I love the African Penguins and it's very cool you have a photo of them here...they do happen to be covered in oil though, I have that picture too.. Anyway I just wanted to say hi, because I think it's awesome you love penguins too.

- Rachel Cheree.Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04486470815660046763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6771258416262743808.post-75794166214906092432009-05-04T19:00:00.000-07:002009-05-04T19:00:00.000-07:00Creating physical boarders between people and the ...Creating physical boarders between people and the environment seems so outrageous considering the rain forest is barely touching Argentina. I think that so far in his term (and while he campaigned) he's done a good job at making it a priority and it is evident that he cares about penguins... and the rest of the environment... because of his appointees.Silva Sevlianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01576184108442992527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6771258416262743808.post-47948639872343574042009-05-04T18:52:00.000-07:002009-05-04T18:52:00.000-07:00The idea of upgrading engines is just crazy!! On another note, I can understand how they're putting the safety of flyers first. There is no doubt that a lot of crime originates from poorer areas of any city, but is shows a strong desire not to help the lower class to simply board them in and let them struggle alone. Governments are there to help people, especially those most in need of help. I think this mayor in Argentina is going to find himself with a ghetto soon and then with even more serious crime and poverty problems.Newborn Republicanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11808389346008020052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6771258416262743808.post-36669831835117349512009-04-17T17:14:00.000-07:002009-04-17T17:14:00.000-07:00The government should be using the money it is spe...The government should be using the money it is spending on building this wall to help the poor residents of the slums it is attempting to enclose. They should also look into healthy ways of foresting and profiting from the rich natural resources of the rainforest such as acai harvesting, which I dicuss in one of my posts: http://cosmopolitannie.blogspot.com/2009/02/ahhhh-i-seeee.htmlAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05610157060415710177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6771258416262743808.post-10030649020244519272009-04-17T17:09:00.000-07:002009-04-17T17:09:00.000-07:00Unfortunately South American governments have been...Unfortunately South American governments have been doing what they want when they want with no regard for human rights and exhibiting only concern for maximizing their power. It is interesting how the governments are trying to pretend like the actions are to protect the environment when the rain forest isn't barely even touching Argentina. I don't think physical borders are ever the way to go and I totally agree with WB who says that where there is a will, there is way... Just look at the success, or lack there-of, of the US-Mexico border.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05610157060415710177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6771258416262743808.post-39240634577229227752009-04-16T11:31:00.000-07:002009-04-16T11:31:00.000-07:00Well just as we have neighborhoods to the East and...Well just as we have neighborhoods to the East and West of the LA river, land borders are often implemented as a way to differentiate class levels. Zoning and planning is subjective in many places, and under a corrupt or less-democratic government, any fixture that can draw clear social division is welcomed. And besides, there have been so many attempts at protecting the Amazon, what's to say this wall would have stopped peddlers from entering? When there's a will, there is a way.Britney Painehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05518238985180907575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6771258416262743808.post-54879452106015214322009-04-15T01:07:00.000-07:002009-04-15T01:07:00.000-07:00I would also like to point out that the rain fores...I would also like to point out that the rain forest is barely touching Argentina. I mean, people go to those movies for a light-hearted enjoyable time. They do not expect, or really want, a large crisis to be confronted in these films.

This reminds me of Wall-E. I had heard that it was a cute movie, so thought it would be. While it was cute, I found it very depressing. It sends a strong message about humans' carelessness for the earth and themselves. I was not expecting this.

While I got the message, I did not feel inclined to act on it because I was shocked at how depressing a cute little Disney movie could be.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6771258416262743808.post-25814224296570438472009-04-14T11:57:00.000-07:002009-04-14T11:57:00.000-07:00Yes. They have no political power and they are completely aware of it. The only real comment they had on the situation was that they hope that they are selected as one of the 600 households that will receive alternate housing from the government who will have to demolish these homes to build the wall. This article highlights the attitude of some of the residents.
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=7222727Britney Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02267491578331344630noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6771258416262743808.post-79996992553487948102009-04-13T16:25:00.000-07:002009-04-13T16:25:00.000-07:00I did some research about the effectiveness of the...I did some research about the effectiveness of the large-audience environmental film (like Happy Feet) for my own blog and found that more often than not these films, no matter how important their messages, or how many people see them, rarely cause significant change. They do, however, cause awareness, which is obviously better than not. Small-audience environmental films, however, tend to cause bigger or at least more dramatic change.Jeff the Penhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05685229623246217675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6771258416262743808.post-58887480813938924922009-04-13T16:18:00.000-07:002009-04-13T16:18:00.000-07:00This is a really interesting post, and I'm actuall...This is a really interesting post, and I'm actually really curious about the opinions of people living inside the city. Have you found any quotes by actual citizens of either the wealthy or lower classes?Jeff the Penhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05685229623246217675noreply@blogger.com
